Since my very first dive 17 years ago I knew I would like to have a job linked to the ocean. I have always believed that if we show and help people to discover the fascinating underwater world, this will contribute to preserve it, which is very important to me. After my studies at University in International Relations and in law in Switzerland, I have worked in the finance industry learning how to manage a business while keeping up the diving at the same time. Having always had the desire to have my own company, the circle was closed with the idea to own a diving academy and be as environmentally friendly as possible. To offer high standard of service following all the international standards without cutting corners, having a really great team and being able to offer possibilities to locals to learn and to give them perspectives in the company are the main reasons why Oliver and I are proud to be owners of Bali Diving Academy. Being community based and support local and international environmental and scientific initiatives on a regular basis is the reason why our guests, in a way, dive differently.

Ever since I started diving when I was a teenager I am in love with the ocean. I like diving as a sport and I am passionate about the underwater world and would like to do everything to preserve it. When I got older and was working in a corporate environment in Switzerland I had a deep desire to be an entrepreneur and to work abroad. By being owner of Bali Diving Academy I can combine my passion for diving with being an entrepreneur. This enables Noëllie and me to lead a company the way it can provide opportunities and persepctives to local employees by offering training to become a dive professional or a boat captain and hence furthering the awareness of the marine environment among the local population. I am also proud to be able to support research activities into Manta Rays and other marine species through Bali Diving Academy.

I was born and grew up at little village up at the hill in Banyuwangi region - East of Java. My childhood was wonderful, I lived surrounded by beautiful environment, such as rice field, small river, cocoa plantation and many more. I am in love  with nature under and above. After my graduation, I moved to Bali to start my career. In September 2011, I joined Bali Diving Academy, in position as Office Manager.  I am in charge of Sales and Reservation, HRD and General Affairs. What I love about working at BDA is that the people here are very professional and to me they are more like my family rather than my boss or my colleagues. When I go to work, I don’t feel that I am going to "office" but I feel that I am going to "my second home

I, together with my husband, manage Bali Diving Academy in Pemuteran.  I am originally from South Africa, but got bitten by the diving bug and started travelling in 1998.  Since then I have worked in many different countries as a diving instructor.  We moved to Pemuteran in March 2013, after being attracted to the area by the beautiful coral reefs and abundance of marine life.  From the beginning I was fascinated by the Biorock Project and simply blown away by the speed of growth of the reef.  We do a lot of our training dives on the Biorock, so we help the Biorock Center by doing regular reef clean-ups and we also remove crown-of-thorn starfish when necessary.  After 25 years as a diver I still love diving and introducing people to the underwater world.

I manage Bali Diving Academy together with my wife, Karin.  I am from Holland, where I used to work as a teacher and artist till 1997, before deciding to follow my dream and become a full-time diver.  I have worked in many different countries as a diving instructor before settling down in Pemuteran in 2013.  I love this area for its natural beauty, both above and under water and mild ocean conditions.  My passion is underwater photography and digital art.  I have co-written and published a book about Underwater Photography and love teaching photographers how to get the best out of their equipment.  I am also the author of many Fish Identification and underwater photography Apps.

After some first cold dives in my home country Germany, my travels took me to places like Indonesia, Australia, French Polynesia and New Zealand, where I finally became PADI Instructor. My first Instructor job brought me to the Maldives where I intended to stay for a year or two but only left about seven years later. Now I closed the circle by coming back to Nusa Lembongan, Bali, where it all started with my Divemaster training in 2008.
Here my partner Marcela and I are proud to be part of the Bali Diving Academy team, one of the first diving operators on Nusa Lembongan.
My appreciation and fondness for the ocean and its inhabitants grew over the years, especially for the smallest creatures, which are so easily overlooked.
I am also a passionate photographer and instructor for underwater photography.
By teaching people diving and showing them the underwater world I can raise awareness of the environmental problems we are facing. Personally I just try to minimize my impact as much as I can: Consume less, prefer local products, avoid plastic bags, packaging and bottles, reuse or repair stuff, and encourage other people to reduce, reuse and recycle. Besides diving and photography I like trekking, surfing and acrylic painting.

I left my home country, Brazil, in 2005 right after graduating from university and I have been travelling the world ever since.
During these years I lived in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and spent the past six years in the Maldives. It was there, in the island nation, that I discover the underwater world and I was hooked from the first dive. I did all my courses there, from Open Water to Divemaster and now I am having the chance to explore the beautiful and pristine reefs of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. The area is famous for manta rays and molas molas but it is also possible to find some small critters, which I have to confess are my favorites, especially the nudibranchs.
My partner Joerg and I, joined the company in May 2017 and we are very happy to be part of a company which has safety as a primary concern.
Apart from diving, I’m an amateur photographer (above and below) who likes yoga, trekking and to go around on a SUP board.
Being so connected with nature, I think it’s very important to be a conscious consumer and to minimize as much as possible the rubbish we produce on daily basis.

I welcome most the guests at the Airport or at their Hotel whenever there is dive trip, I am most of the time the first image of the company and I am happy to be recognised with my friendly smile. To share the beauty of Bali with the guest when I am driving them is crucial for me. I am working with Bali Diving Academy since 1995 where I started my job as a compressor and equiments staff before becoming a professional driver and sometimes as a tour guide as well as Bali is my home island.

I grew up by the sea in Banyopoh and taught myself to swim after watching how my friends were doing it.  After school I first worked in a hotel and then at an oyster farm, where I spent a lot of time in the water pulling around oyster platforms.  In 2004 I got a job with a dive center and they taught me to dive.  I loved being in the water but was very scared in the beginning; I thought there were lots of big things that might like to eat me!  In 2009 I moved over to Bali Diving Academy in Pemuteran where I eventually did my Diving Instructor and Emergency First Responder Instructor courses.  Teaching people to dive is really my passion and I even got a Certificate of Excellence from PADI for teaching.  I believe it is important to stay involved in environment projects, so I help with a village reforestation project to prevent erosion and also help with beach and underwater clean ups, as well as crown-of-thorn control.  I am married and father to two girls

When I was 15, I was on a holiday in Tioman Island, Malaysia, with my dad and he decided that we should both do discovery scuba diving (DSD). My dad insisted that I should get my Open Water and Advanced Open Water when we were both in Thailand for a business trip, during my long college break. While in University, I travelled between Singapore and Thailand to complete my IDC and Instructor Exam (IE). Soon after completing my IE, I managed to intern for a dive center in Singapore before moving to Krabi, Thailand in 2014 after I finished University. I had a short stint in Bunaken, North Sulawesi in 2015 and travelled back to Thailand in mid-2016. It was in early 2017 that I wanted a new challenge as well as a change in environment and decided that Bali Diving Academy was what I was looking for. Diving in Nusa Lembongan is perfect given its ever-changing currents, making it ideal because every dive is different so it never gets boring.

After I finished school I worked as a gardener in Nusa Dua until I decided to move closer to my family in Pemuteran. I heard about a job opening up as helper on a dive boat.  Over the next few years I worked my way up from helper to snorkeling guide and eventually to dive guide.  One of the biggest challenges I had to overcome was learning to swim at the age of 30!  I worked as a Divemaster for 3 years.  Last year Bali Diving Academy offered me the opportunity to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.  I had to work really hard, especially since I had to do the whole course in English, but I passed the exam and taught my first course in August 2016.  I love the challenge of teaching beginners to dive and to introduce them to the underwater world.  When I am not teaching, I often help out at the Biorock Project, to do underwater cleanups and to plant baby corals.  I am married and the father of two young boys.

I cannot remember a time when I did not come to the beach every day.  My father was a fisherman and I while growing up, I was always either in the water or on the water, in the boat.  I love the ocean and could not imagine a job which would take me away from it.  When I was a young boy, I worked at a local dive center for pocket money (with my friend Gede!).  We both helped to carry tanks, clean equipment and do other small jobs around the dive center.  When I finished school, I started working as a helper and eventually became a snorkel guide once my English was good enough.  In 2013 I finished my Divemaster course and since then I have been working as dive guide.  I love to introduce people to the diving in Pemuteran and Menjangan and to show them all the different critters.  In my free time I help out at the Biorock Project to maintain structures and do clean-ups.  I am married and father to a baby boy.

Growing up, I knew nothing about the ocean.  I was trained in hospitality, but when the hotel changed owners, I lost my job.  A friend recommended me to the manager of Bali Diving academy for a job as helper.  On the first day that I went out on the boat, I was horribly seasick.  Same on the second day!  I went home and told my father that this was not the job for me.  He told me: ‘You did not find this job, this job found you.  Give it a chance.  And by the way, it is probably a good time to learn to swim!’  I gave it a chance and I learned to swim and to speak English.  I was really scared when I did my Open Water Course, but finally I was comfortably enough to work as a snorkel guide.  Last year I became a Divemaster!  I love diving, especially with new divers, as I understand a lot of the challenges they have.  Apart from diving, I work closely with students in the local community and help to arrange cultural events.  I am newly married.

I first started at Bali Diving Academy as compressor staff. After a few years I was taught diving by Bali Diving Academy. Having grown up and always lived in Tulamben and being a fan of the ocean since I am a teenager I know all the dive sites by heart. I enjoy working as a dive guide, because I get to know people from all over the world with completely different cultures and characters. Being a very curious nature I always like to discover new places and aspects of the known dive sites to always bring our clients a little further in their journey.

While growing up in Bunaken Island (North Sulawesi), I have always been interested in the ocean and the marine life. It was almost 3 years ago that I started working as a diving guide. Despite having an amazing reef and marine environment in Bunaken, I am very interested in travelling around Indonesia and discovering the different dive sites that the country has to offer. Other than guiding in Bunaken, I had experiences guiding in Raja Ampat before starting working in Bali Diving Academy in November 2016. I am very passionate about macro marine life and enjoy spending time spotting small critters as well as the different types of nudibranches and seahorses. Amongst all, my favorite would be the pygmy seahorse. I am looking forward to gaining more experience during my time with Bali Diving Academy and improving myself, both as a diver and as a dive guide.

I had my first diving experience around 2013 in Bunaken (North Sulawesi) and I fell in love with the underwater world straight away. Once I was done with my university studies, I decided to jump into the diving world because since my early dives, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the diving industry. I joined Bali Diving Academy in May 2017 and I see it as an excellent opportunity to learn, gain experience and of course, explore the beautiful reefs of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.

As an avid land photographer, now I am having the chance to learn about underwater photography as well. It really excites me when I am able to share pictures of the underwater beauty with other people.

The Indonesian sea fascinates me because of the various marine life it has to offer and the unexplored possibilities surrounding the area.
With Bali Diving Academy I will have plenty of opportunities to explore various dive sites because they have branches in other locations.

From when I was young I used to go out on small fishing boats.  I eventually learned how to drive one, but did not think about doing it for a job.  After school I worked first on construction sites and then got my driving license and worked full-time as a driver for a big hotel.  I missed being on the sea though, so when I heard about a job at Bali Diving Academy I applied for it.  Even though I already had some experience with driving boats, they trained me for 4 months before we applied for my captain’s license.  I am very comfortable on and in the sea and a PADI Open Water Diver.  I am married and father of 2 boys.

Growing up in Nusa Penida, the ocean has always been part of my life but it was not until high school when I went snorkeling in Crystal Bay for the first time that I really fell in love with the ocean. I started working in Bali Diving Academy in September 2016 as a compressor tender. Since joining the team, I have had plenty of opportunities to explore other interests such as snorkeling and being on the boat. Coming from Nusa Penida as well as having a father who is a fisherman, it is only natural for me to be working in an industry that is related to the ocean. As a compressor tender, I get the opportunity to utilize the skills I’ve learned from my job experience as a mechanic. At the same time, Bali Diving Academy has given me the opportunity to learn how to operate a dive boat / being a boat captain as well as maintaining dive equipment. I also have had chances to snorkel Nusa Penida while working with Bali Diving Academy. Hopefully in the long run, I will be able to learn more skills in order to know how to operate a dive boat.
